Mecklenburg County is seeking to learn more about what our community’s veterans, their families, and supporters need from local service providers.

Dozens of children and their families were recognized on Nov. 22 in celebration of National Adoption Day in Mecklenburg County. This year, 89 youth have received decrees, all adopted through Mecklenburg County’s Youth and Family Services division. 

Although the overall incidence of mpox cases in Mecklenburg County has declined since 2022, there has been a recent increase in new cases. Mecklenburg County Public Health is issuing a health advisory to prompt providers to include mpox as part of their differential diagnosis for all patients who exhibit clinically consistent symptoms. 

Mecklenburg County joined The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte on Nov. 19 to celebrate the groundbreaking of an expansion project at its Center of Hope shelter on Spratt Street—a facility that provides critical services for women, children and veterans experiencing homelessness.  

Each year, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) recognizes outstanding work by frontline responders with persons in crisis with a serious mental illness.

Mecklenburg County Public Health has seen a recent increase in mpox cases, which coincides with increases in cases in other U.S. cities and a newer strain of the virus, Clade I, with more severe symptoms that have been circulating in parts of Africa and Europe.

Mecklenburg County, in coordination with many community partners, has introduced a strategy for addressing homelessness and other ongoing health and human service issues that have long affected the neighborhood surrounding Catherine Simmons Avenue off Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte.

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 18 adopted a resolution affirming the constitutional protections and expressing support for the immigrant community during recent operations by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
