One in three young people in the United States experiences abuse by a dating partner annually. In an average Mecklenburg County classroom, that’s more than 10 students.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is celebrating Black History Month in February with several events that honor the legacy of Black Americans in Mecklenburg County and beyond.

Siemens Energy has announced it will further expand its operations in Mecklenburg County as part of a $421 expansion across North Carolina, creating 500 new jobs statewide. 

Due to the inclement weather and cold temperatures this week, Mecklenburg County offices and services will operate on a delayed basis on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, opening at noon.

Due to inclement weather and the closure of the County Assessor’s Office, the Feb. 2 deadline for taxpayers to list Individual and Business Personal Property has been extended until the next day that Mecklenburg County offices are open for business. The portal to list online is available 24/7.

Due to anticipated extreme winter weather, several Mecklenburg County facilities and services will be closed during the weekend of Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. 

In response to the winter weather and cold temperatures, extreme weather protocols and expanded homeless shelter capacity remain in effect until at least Tuesday, Feb. 3.
