Catherine M. Wilson Center Celebration

Please join us to celebrate the renaming of 301 Billingsley Road in honor of Catherine M. Wilson, the first African American program administrator at the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services.  The celebration will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Wilson joined the Department of Social Services in 1947, retiring after 37 years of service to the residents of Mecklenburg County. Her tenure was marked by her humble leadership, wealth of knowledge, and unwavering dedication to clients.  The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners approved the renaming in honor of Wilson in October 2024.  During this ceremony, we will honor Wilson’s legacy and her enduring impact on the residents of Mecklenburg County.  Light refreshments will be served.
